M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) celebrated Professor M.S. Swaminathan’s birthday as well as Foundation Day by inaugurating the Consultation on Pulses for addressing Food and Nutrition Security on Sunday, 7th August. The consultation is part of a 3-day event organization to explore the ways to bridge the pulses gap, as part of the activities, in UN declared International Year of Pulses and brings together farmers from India and scientists, development practitioners from around the world to discuss methods to increase pulses production.

The chief dignitaries were Professor M.S. Swaminathan, Dr Mahmoud Solh, Director General ICARDA, Dr Xuan Li, Senior Policy Officer, the Food and Agriculture Organization, Dr David Bergvinson, Director General, International Crop Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics, ICRISAT, and Mr N Ram, Chairperson Kasturi and Sons and Trustee MSSRF. Brochures for two forthcoming World Scientific–MSSRF publications were distributed to all participants announcing the arrival of the two volumes next year under the new series, M.S. Swaminathan: The Quest For a World Without Hunger (http://www.worldscientific.com/series/mssqwwh).
